Iran prepares to attack US bases, warships
24 September 2005: Iran has identified seven US bases in the region to attack in case there is the smallest sign of American mobilisation to its borders, and the military assets have been broadly identified to be in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, and Djibouti.
Official sources said Iran has also threatened US warships and specific military assets in the Persian Gulf in case it moved for a naval blockade, and these decisions were taken by the Iranian national security council after president Mohammad Ahmadinejad?Ts combative speech in the UN General Assembly, where he said that in the face of U.S. provocation, ?owe will reconsider our entire approach to the nuclear issue?.
Intelligence filtering out from the highest levels of the Iranian leadership suggests that it considers the present US threat more credible than any rhetoric in the past, and Iran is trying to forge a national consensus to face any military challenge from America.
The Iranian leadership is absolutely confident of prevailing over any US attack alone, and it assesses that the American military is ?overy tired? and cannot run a big military campaign against Iran for long, although independent analysts said the country was making a virtue of a necessity, because none of its neighbours was likely *****pport it against the United States.
The European Union backed by the US is pressing for a vote of the IAEA board for referring Iran to the UN Security Council for sanctions for violating the NPT, and according to newspaper reports, when Ahmadinejad called prime minister Manmohan Singh, he asked him to be ?oflexible? to avoid a confrontation over the nuclear issue.

Ấn Độ sẽ tập trận với Nam Triều Tiên vào tháng 3 năm 2006
Joint exercises with S.Korea in March 2006
27 September 2005: In pursuit of strategic depth in South East Asia as well as in the Asia Pacific region, India will conduct joint exercises with the South Korean military in March 2006.
Military sources said that India will have a presence for two weeks in the Pacific and will have extensive exchange of views on regional security with South Korea, and the military delegation will also exchange views with Japan and the Philippines while paying them goodwill visits.
South Korea, a US ally, suspects the long-term Chinese military build up in the Pacific which could target it, and any Chinese intervention in the Spratly dispute choking the sealanes of communication in the South China Sea would cripple its economy.
South Korea feels that India?Ts presence in the region would offset the one-sided Chinese military presence in the region, and South Korea has been signaling for two years with India for a strategic partnership which could cover trade, politics, military, culture, and high-tech exchanges in space and other areas and exports.
India has shown interest in South Korea recently, and it could be a better option to enter into the Pacific theatre, and South Korea has promised assistance with the APEC membership, which China has blocked on the grounds that India is not in the Pacific.

India, U.S. Hold Joint War Games, Avoid Nuclear Issues
    By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, GOA
The biggest-ever joint naval exercises between India and the United States went into high gear Sept. 27 but the war games in the Arabian Sea steered clear of thorny issues such as simulated nuclear combat, officials said.
The 10-day event codenamed ?oMalabar? began when the 1,092-foot aircraft carrier Nimitz led two American Aegis-class destroyers into Indian waters on Sept. 25.
?One part of our war games was over when the two navies met at mid-sea when the exercises began and now we are engaging in comprehensive maneuvers,? Indian Navy spokesman Captain A.K. Lambhate said in India?Ts western resort of Goa, a nerve center for the exercises.
The nuclear-powered Nimitz, which carries 40 jets and 6,000 crew and is armed with RAM and Sparrow missile launchers, is the first U.S. carrier to take part in joint exercises with nations outside the North Atlantic Treaty organization.
?This is a great mission as it enhances mutual confidence-building measures, streamlines procedures for the future and will help both countries across a wide canvas,? said Lambhate, as the ships practiced anti-submarine warfare.
The joint exercise is the eighth in a series between the two navies and involves F-18 Hornets from the U.S. side and British-designed Sea Harriers, which Tuesday flew several sorties from the deck of India?Ts solitary aircraft carrier INS Viraat.
An unspecified number of German-designed submarines backed the Indian fleet, an official said by telephone from the decks of a participating Indian missile destroyer.
?Activities such as interdiction, information exchange, anti-piracy and operations to halt unauthorized transportation of weapons are under way but NBC (nuclear, biological chemical warfare exercises) is not on the agenda,? said another official, who did not want to be named.
?These still remain a thorny issue with them (the U.S.),? he added.
The United States imposed sanctions including restrictions on transfer of dual-use technology after India conducted nuclear weapons tests in May 1998.
Washington eased some of the sanctions after India pledged its support to its global campaign against terrorism following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Indian naval spokesman Lambhate said the major action was still to come.
?(From) 30th September onwards the major part of the exercises will commence and will continue until the exercises end on October 4. There?Tll be a lot of activity in that period,? he said without elaborating.
Washington has held several joint military exercises with Indian defense forces over the past three to four years.
The United States and India signed a landmark agreement in January to share advanced technology, including for peaceful nuclear applications.
In June defense ministers of India and the United States signed a 10-year accord paving the way for joint weapons production, cooperation on missile defense and the possible lifting of remaining U.S. export controls on sensitive military technologies.

Saab Wins MSEK 350 Surface-To-Surface Missile System Contract For German Navy
Karlskoga, Sweden (SPX) Sep 27, 2005
Last Thursday (Sep 22) the procurement contract for the heavy-weight anti-ship Missile System RBS15 Mk3 from Saab was signed by the German Federal Procurement Agency and prime contractor Diehl BGT Defence.
The value of the contract for Saab Bofors Dynamics, who is the system design authority, is MSEK 350.
The co-operation agreement with Diehl BGT Defence encompasses development, production and marketing.
"This is a breakthrough for the RBS15 Mk3, and we are naturally both pleased and proud that the German Navy has chosen us and our business partner. This also makes Germany the first NATO navy to operate the RBS15 Mk3 system," says Tomas Samuelsson, President of Saab Bofors Dynamics.
The ordered missile systems will arm Germany''s new K130-class corvettes, which are currently under construction.
"Thanks to this contract, we can now look forward to the RBS15 Mk3 system becoming the German Navy''s standard for heavy missiles," Tomas Samuelsson adds.
The RBS15 Mk3 is a powerful, versatile Surface-to-Surface Missile system with a range of more than 200 km and the added capability to combat land targets. Sweden and Germany are planning to further develop the system jointly and adapt it to new future requirements.
Saab is one of the world''s leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defense, aviation and space. The Group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration.

Saab RBS15 Mk3 SSM is a true fire and forget multi purpose anti-ship/land attack, sea skimming, cruise type missile. The missile possesses a high hit probability by a flexible pre-launch programmable active radar seeker. It has unique ECCM and defence penetration capabilities by an offset, stealthy approach featuring a very low terminal trajectory with a set of evasive manoeuvres and re-attacks. Features that all are contributing to the missile''s high defence penetration capability. The RBS15 Mk3, is designed to operate in the naval scenario, from blue sea con***ions to littoral warfare and in land attack missions. The long flight range and extremely flexible trajectory enables attacks from short distances to ranges well beyond the horizon. Attacks can also be mounted from different directions with pre-selected time of arrival for each missile as well as simultaneous arrival.

Metal Storm To Adapt US Army Munitions For Use With Its 40mm Weapons Systems
Metal Storm has announced that it''s US subsidiary, Metal Storm, has signed an agreement with the US Army to develop and adapt munitions for use with Metal Storm 40mm weapons systems.
David Smith, Metal Storm''s CEO, said the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) is significant because it formalises the company''s partnership with a key defence industry research organisation.
"The CRADA will allow us to take existing certified munitions from the US Army inventory and convert them to Metal Storm configuration," he said.
"Our agreement with the US Army Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) provides us with the opportunity to establish a successful business development partnership with one of the defence industry''s most influential research organisations," he said.
"It also supports Metal Storm''s clearly stated strategy of focusing on its core 40mm technology, getting it to market in the shortest time possible, and transforming itself into a systems integrator."
Mr Smith said the agreement would provide the framework for the rapid development testing and eventual certification of a range of 40mm munitions for use with Metal Storm''s weapon systems.
Under the agreement, which has a life of up to 5 years, Metal Storm will work closely with US Army engineers and will have access to specialised equipment, laboratories, and armaments facilities on a fee for service basis.
The estimated cost to Metal Storm of the scope of works under this agreement is up to US$549,000 (approximately AU$730,000) which the Company expects to be completed within the next 12 to 18 months.
