Russia Launches Massive Air Force Exercise

The Russian military on Tuesday launched a massive exercise that will involve dozens of long-range bombers test-firing cruise missiles, the Associated Press news agency reported quoting the nation?Ts air force chief.
The maneuvers will involve over 50 Tu-160, Tu-95 and Tu-22M aircraft flying missions over the Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and the Black and Caspian Seas, Gen. Vladimir Mikhailov said, according to the Interfax and ITAR-Tass news agencies. He said it will be the largest exercise involving Russian long-range bombers in years, the agencies reported.
A flow of petrodollars has allowed the Russian government to steadily increase military budget in recent years, a sharp contrast with dire funding shortages after the 1991 Soviet collapse. Russian military exercises have grown in scope and become more regular.

SU-34 nên gọi là mini bomber thì có lẻ chính xác hơn . Nó được thiết kế để làm nhiệm vụ tương tự F-111 . Buồng lái SU-34 rất rộng với 2 chổ ngồi song song và phía sau lưng ghế là chổ nghỉ ngơi nhỏ . vì không stealth nên nó thiết kế bay thấp bám địa hình như F-111 . Nó mang 8 tấn bom như F-15E , F-18E/F . Nó có thể mang tên lửa Moskit vốn rất to nặng . Tuy nhiên trọng lượng 41 tấn nhưng với động cơ AL-31 nó có khả năng không chiến bị giới hạn do quá nặng và động cơ quá yếu so với trọng lượng máy bay .

Theo tin từ Interfax-AVN , Cuộc thử nghiệm phóng tên lửa Bulava từ tầu ngầm Nga ngày 7-9 vừa qua đã hoàn toàn thất bại . Công việc phát triễn Bulava còn một bước dài để qua .
Russia''s Bulava fails in Arctic test launch
Russian officials have told the Interfax-AVN news agency that a test launch of the submarine-launched Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile earlier this month was a failure.
The Bulava was fired Sep 7 from a strategic nuclear submarine from a submerged position but the test was a failure, Interfax-AVN said. The news agency cited "a source close to the test commission" for its information.
"It was the second launch of a Bulava missile from a submerged position and ended in a failure unlike the first one," the source told Interfax-AVN. The Bulava''s final stage plunged into the Arctic Ocean only a few minutes after the missile was fired by the Northern Fleet submarine Dmitry Donskoi, he said.
The Dmitry Donskoi carried out its first two test launches of Bulavas in 2005, firing one of the missiles from a surface position in Sepember and the other from a submerged position in December, Interfax-AVN said. The Bulava can carry up to nuclear warheads and it has a range of 4,800 miles, the agency said.

In 1996 an $800m deal was reached to purchase two Sovremenny class destroyers (Type 956E 7,940t full load) from Russia which were initially built for Soviet Navy. After prolonged negotiations and delays caused by financial problems of the shipyard as well as disagreement over selection of the onboard weapon systems, the first vessel was finally launched at the North Shipyard in St. Petersburg on Feburary 15, and the second on April 16, 1999. The first ship sailed back to China in early January 2000 under the command of a mixed Chinese and Russian crew, but without any SS-N-22 missiles onboard. The first batch of the missiles (24?) was delivered in May 2000 and the first successful test fire of the missile occurred in November. The second ship (137 Fuzhou) sailed back to China in January 2001, carrying 8 Sunburn missiles. Currently both ships are in service with the East Sea Fleet facing Japan and Taiwan. As the largest and most powerful warship ever to enter PLAN service, its 8 SS-N-22 SSMs (3M80E/Sunburn, active/passive radar homing to 160km at Mach 2.5) are a direct response to US CVBG''''s presence in the western Pacific, and its 44 SA-N-7 SAMs (9M38, semi-active radar/IR homing to 25km at Mach 3, multiple fire channels) will provide PLAN for the first time a true fleet air-defence capability. 4 Ka-28 ASW helicopters were ordered separately to be carried by the two ships. There is little doubt that Sovremenny class DDG will enable PLAN to project its power beyond China''''s tra***ional territory. In January 2002 China signed a $1 billion contract to acquire two more ships (Type 956EM) upgraded with a new combat control system, 9M317 SAM (range 45km), 3M80MBE SSMs (range 240km) and two Kashtan CIWS replacing AK-630 and the aft main guns removed. A second Band Stand radar was installed on top of the helicopter hanger which might provide guidance for locally made YJ series SSMs (to be installed?), or could be an air-search radar for the Kashtan CIWS. The first ship (138 Taizhou) was launched on April 27, 2004 at the North Shipyard in St. Petersburg and the 2nd ship (139) was launched on July 23, 2004. The first ship was handed over to PLAN on December 28, 2005 and the 2nd is expected in 2006.
