** The following events in Beatles history all took place on October 22. **

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Beatles * [J] John * [P] Paul * [G] George * [R] Ringo * [O] Other
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1960
The Beatles perform at the Kaiserkeller Club, Grosse Freiheit,
    Hamburg, West Germany.

    1961
The Beatles perform at the Casbah Coffee Club, West Derby,
    Liverpool.

    1962
The Beatles perform at Queen's Hall, Widnes. Also appearing is Lee
Curtis and the All-Stars, whose drummer is Pete Best.

    1964
The Beatles, on a tour of Britain, perform two shows at the Odeon
    Cinema in Leeds.

    1965
The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios,
London). George Martin overdubs the piano solo that links the two
halves of "In My Life". To get the desired effect, he records the
part at half-speed and plays it back at double-speed. The Beatles
start over again recording "Nowhere Man", getting the basic track
down in three takes and adding overdubs until the song is
    completed.

    [G] 1966
George and Patti Harrison return to London after a vacation in
India. While in India, George had met Ravi Shankar and had begun
taking sitar lessons. He and Patti had also begun practicing yoga.
George's resentment towards John Lennon and Paul McCartney's
songwriting dominance within The Beatles was becoming a major issue
for George. While staying in India, George and Patti had used the
names Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wells.

    1969
Release in Sweden of Beatles LP "Something New" (Parlophone).

    [P] 1984
Release of Paul McCartney LP "Give My Regards to Broad Street" in
the US (Columbia) and the UK (EMI). Songs: "No More Lonely
Nights", "Silly Love Songs" (version 2), "Good Day Sunshine"
(version 2), "Yesterday" (version 2), "Here, There and Everywhere"
(version 2), "Wanderlust" (version 2), "Ballroom Dancing" (version
2), "Not Such a Bad Boy", "No Values", "For No One" (version 2),
"Eleanor Rigby" (version 2), "The Long and Winding Road" (version
2), and the instrumentals "Corridor Music" and "Eleanor's Dream".
Also issued on CD and cassette, those formats having bonus tracks
"So Bad" (version 2) and a longer version of "Eleanor's Dream".
The CD contains an ad***ional bonus track, "Goodnight Princess",
which has a spoken introduction by McCartney.

    [P] 1991
US release of Paul McCartney album "Paul McCartney's Liverpool
Oratorio". Selections: "Movement 1 - War Tracks", "Movement 2 -
School Tracks", "Movement 3 - Crypt Tracks", "Movement 4 - Father
Tracks", "Movement 5 - Wedding Tracks", "Movement 6 - Work Tracks",
"Movement 7 - Crises Tracks", and "Movement 8 - Peace Tracks". Six
weeks on Billboard chart; top position #177.

    1996
Beatles publicist Geoff Baker announces that "The Beatles are now
bigger than The Beatles". His statement is based upon the fact
that the year 1996 is expected to be the biggest year for album
sales ever for The Beatles. Thus far in 1996, The Beatles have
sold 6,000,000 albums from their back catalog and a combined total
of 13,000,000 copies of "The Beatles Anthology 1" and "The Beatles
Anthology 2". With the release of "The Beatles Anthology 3" only a
week away, it is anticipated that total Beatles album sales for
1996 will exceed 20 million. Somewhat surprisingly, studies show
that 41 percent of those sales are to teenagers who were not even
born yet when The Beatles officially called it quits in 1970.
