    General Data

    Area: 329,560 sq.km (127,280 sq. miles); 24% arable, 1% meadows and pastures, 40% forest and woodland, 35% other.

    Coastline: 3,444km (2,140 miles) excluding islands.

    Maritime claims: Territorial waters 22km (12nm), contiguous zone 44km (24nm), EEZ 370km (200nm), continental shelf 200nm or edge of continental margin.

    Population: 81,624,716 (July 2003 est.); annual growth rate 1.29% (2003 est.). The population is 85-90% Vietnamese, 3% Chinese; ethnic minorities.

    Religions: Buddhist, Confucian, Taoist, Christian, Islamic, indigenous beliefs.

    Languages: Vietnamese (official), French, Chinese, English, Khmer, tribal languages (Mon-Khmer and Malayo-Polynesian).

    Literacy rate: 93.7%.

    Government

    Long-form or legal name: Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Cong-Hoa Xa-Hoi Chu-Nghia Viet-Nam).

    Type of government: Communist state.

    Administrative divisions: 58 provinces, 3 municipalities.

    Legal system: Based on Communist legal theory and French civil law system.

    Branches of government: Unicameral 450-seal National Assembly (Quoc-Hoi) elected by popular vote; President elected by the National Assembly from amongst its members; Prime Minister appointed by the President from amongst the members of the National Assembly; Cabinet appointed by the President on the proposal of the Prime Minister and ratification by the National Assembly.

    Suffrage: Universal overage 18.

    Member of: UN, ASEAN and others.

    Economy

    GDP: US$183 billion (2002 est.), US$2,250 per capita; real growth rate 6% (2002 est.).

    Balance of trade: Imports, US$16.8 billion (f.o.b., 2002 est.); exports, US$16.5 billion (f.o.b., 2002 est.).

    Defence

    Total active manpower: Some 480,000.

    Para-military forces: 1,000,000 People''s Self Defence Force; 500,000 People''s Regional Force (includes the Public Security Force under the Ministry of Interior); 60,000 Border Defence Force (under the Ministry of Defence).

    Conscription: 12 months (up to 48 months for special ranks and services). Conscription for women aged 18-40 was reintroduced in late 2001.

    Defence budget: US$650 million, 2.5% of GDP (1998).

    Vietnam has ordered twelve S-300PMU1 systems to equip two air defence battalions. Picture shows the system''s 5P85 launcher.
    Following an order for two M28 SKYTRUCK transports to be delivered in 2004, the Vietnamese Air Force is finalising a contract for an ad***ional eight-ten aircraft configured for MP roles. These will be similar to the Polish Navy''s M28B BRYZAs (shown).

    APCs: 1,500 BTR-40/-50/-60/-152, Type 56, K63, some M-113s and a few V-100 COMMANDOs

    Artillery: 300 76mm, 85mm, 100mm, 105mm, 122mm, 200 130mm, 100 152mm

    Mortars: 81mm, 107mm, 120mm and 160mm

    MRLs: Type 63 107mm, 122mm, 140mm

    ATGW: SAGGER

    AA guns: 23mm and 37mm towed; ZSU-23-4, ZSU-57-2 SP

    SSMs: SCUD B/Cs

    SAMs: SA-7, SA-9, 50 IGLA (being delivered).

    NB: Following on the procurement of 50 IGLA MANPADS during 2002, licence production is being launched with Russian support.

    NB: The two aSvetlyak" type patrol boats were delivered during 2003. Ten aMolniya" type (Project 1241.8) missile patrol boats are on order, including eight vessels to be assembled in local yards.

    Coast Guard

    The Coast Guard has been established as a command under the Navy. A requirement has been formulated for a class of 4-6 patrol vessels.

    Air Force

    Structure: 3 combat divisions, each with 2-3 combat regiments (= squadrons) and a transport regiment.

    Personnel: 30,000

    Structure:

    Combat: 7-8 interceptor regiments with some 120 MiG-21F/PF

    1 fighter regiment with 9 Su-27SKs and 3 Su-27UBKs

    1 fighter/ground attack regiment with with 40 SU-22s

    Transports: 3-4 regiments with 12 An-26s, 12 An-24s, 30 Li-2s, 2 I1-18s (VIP)

    Training: 20 L-39s, 6 MiG-21UMs, ? Yak-52s

    Helicopters: 3-4 regiments with 10 Mi-6s, 60 Mi-8s, 35 Mi-24s, 15 Ka-25s

    Air defences: 14 air defence divisions and 6 radar brigades. The divisions are mixed AAA/missile units operating 37mm, 57mm, 85mm, 100mm and 130mm guns in both fixed and mobile emplacements as well as 25 SAM regiments (10 with 180 SA-2s, 5 with 45 SA-6s, 10 with 180 SA-3s).

    NB: Four Su-30K fighters have been ordered, with an option for an ad***ional eight. A contract for the supply of two battalions (12 systems) of Su-300PMU1 SAM was signed in mid-2003.

    Two PZL M-28 SKYTRUCKs on order, with deliveries by late 2004. These arc expected to be followed by an ad***ional 8-10 aircrall equipped for maritime patrol missions.

    Major air bases: Bien, Bienhoa, Binh Thuy, Cana, Dalat, Da Nang, Dien Bien Phu, Dong Hoi, Gia Lam, Hoa Lae, Phan Rang, Pleiku, Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh.

    Mình có thắc mắc là tàiliệu này do tổ chức nào thực hiện nhỉ?
    Các số liệu đừần lờnần lớn các số liệu khá là sít sao(đưa ra được từng số lượng chotừng loại vũ khí hẳn hoi)trong khi ở ta,đó đều được coi là bí mật?
