Bush Finds Time for a Treat

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - President Bush and his wife took time out from a day of summitry for a tra***ional Belgian treat: artisan-crafted chocolates.

Both confessed chocolate-lovers, the couple stopped the presidential motorcade Wednesday for an unscheduled visit to Mary's Chocolatier, supplier to kings and presidents - including Bush's father - since 1919.

The Bushes were shown a replica of the Belgian royal palace - which they had just visited - by owner Michel Boey before they were led to the glass-encased counter to select their pralines.

``Can we get a box of assorted?'' Bush asked after a few moments of indecision.

Bush, relaxed and ``very pleased'' after his meeting with the 18 other NATO leaders, bantered with a small group of reporters and photographers while Mrs. Bush helped the clerk select 66 pieces to put into a two-pound box.

``Keep it under 20,000 calories,'' Bush quipped when he turned to check on their progress.

The Bushes each also got a free sample. ``Whoa, that is REALLY good,'' Bush declared.

After pulling some Belgian francs out of his pocket, Bush paid the clerk the equivalent of $33 and then turned to share the sweets with reporters journalists.
