Trung Quốc tăng cường diễn tập với Su-27

    Nguồn: Kanwa.

<Kanwa News April 10th 2002> Kanwa has noticed that Su27SK has been more frequently involved in the warship-fighter joint operational exercises since 2000, particularly in the Chinese Donghai Fleet. In recent years, Su27SK's operations on the sea have changed from two-fighter formation to 4-fighter formation, and the fighter often took part in the joint exercise with the latest model of Jiangwei1/2 frigate. Meanwhile, the training operations of SU30MKK have also been reinforced. It was discovered in 2001 that there were obviously more frequent flight exercises of two-fighter formation. Sometimes, SU30MKK involved in the exercises did not carry any weapon system. It is estimated that it still takes some time before SU30MKK fighters can actually establish actual combat capability, especially its capability in conducting air to ground and air to ship assault.
Kanwa does not believe that C801K ASM will be installed on SU30MKK. It is incompatible both in the software language and in the interface. Russia is making greater effort to promote to China its X35 air-to-ship missile; therefore, it is impossible for the Russians to help China upgrade the interface of the system. <For full story, see Kanwa April 10th Issue>

China to Hold Military Drills off Dongshan Island: Report
Hong Kong media report the Chinese Liberation Army (PLA) has planned to launch a large-scale landing and joint-forces exercise -- Liberation I --- off Dongshan Island, Fujian Province in mid June.
The military exercise has been claimed the first and largest-ever since Chen Shui-bian's inauguration last May, demonstrating the central government's discontent with Chen refusing to embrace the 'One-China' principle, protest against US' arms sale to the island province and its determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The military drill will involve crack troops and sophisticated weapons like missile force, amphibious tank force, marine corps, submarines, modern destroyers and Su-27 fighters, according to a report by Chine News Service.
A senior official was quoted as saying that the military training exercise is aimed to warn Taiwan authorities not to play with fire. The report said that US President Bush's policy and attitude on issues like arms sale and surveillance plane have spoiled Taiwan authorities, making it to think that Chinese mainland would not render arm forces to solve the problem or risk a war with the US.
Hong Kong-based Wen Wai Po pointed out in an article that one of the aims of the military drills is to prevent 'Taiwan independence'.
    FM confirms military exercises
Chinese Foreign ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi confirmed on Tuesday, June 5, that China's military forces were conducting drills on an island opposite Taiwan, but said they were routine and had no wider meaning.
"The People's Liberation Army is conducting military exercises on Dongshan island. These are normal, annual, routine training activities aimed at improving troops' exercise and combat capacity," Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yixi said.
"Do not confuse it with other issues," Sun told a news conference.

Chinese Air Force Had a Drill over South China Sea
CCTV released Wednesday that Chinese air force lately had a drill at a military airport in South China, including heading off enemy fighters at low altitude over the sea, forming a fighting formation at night, intercepting enemy's plane, and drilling at night with special tactics.
Details on time and spot of this drilling unavailable. As released the troop taking up the drilling, has been well equipped in recent years, and as one of China's earliest air forces it had participated in the War of Resistance to the US Aggression and Aiding Korea and other well-known battles.
The airforce has reportedly succeeded in taking off and landing on a plateau of 3500 meters above sea level. And it can also make regular patrol flights over the distant territory waters.
With a number of first-class pilots, the airforce all have the capabilities in piloting their fighters at their own will as well as handling any incident in a calm and composed way.
This troop has first succeeded in shooting down the fast-flying small object at a low altitude with a fighter plane. It has also scored great achievements in much arduous training, including assaulting the enemy plane at low altitude, bombarding with ball cartridge, taking off and landing in bad weathers, and what not.
The report finally said that such aspects as taking off at any spot, flying to any airspace, and fighting at any time, are the important criteria of a country's air battle effectiveness. As the new-type fighters of the Chinese air force have succeeded in attaining these goals with high qualities and in a short time it indicates that the comprehensive battle effectiveness of the Chinese air force has been raised to a higher level.
