I just got some time to answer this question. When you are possessing an F1 visa you are permitted to apply for permanent residency assuming you would have sufficient criteria, or are eligible, to appy for one.
I understand that, though not sure and will need to investigate a bit further, a green card application may take about six months to complete. When I have time I will come back to this investigation and provide more accurate answer. I am not an immigration lawyer and so I do not really know. Later on I am not working in immigration either.
If you do not understand the process of applying for a green card, a lawyer who has experience on such will speed up the process. However, note that legal fees in the US are not cheap (that is one of the reasons why most people hate lawyers).

As far as I am aware of, there is no legal requirement that a sponsor must have blood relationship with the sponsored. Therefore, your boyfriend will be able to sponsor you to study in the US.
The requirement is that your boyfriend must prove to the visa issuer that he has enough, and credible, finance *****pport you during your time of studying in the US. One of the means is that he can prove he has more than the required amount deposited in a bank account in the US.
