The 1998/99 season started off with a bang. Alex Ferguson bought Dwight Yorke for a club record of £12.6 million. He paid Alex back dearly winning the FA Footballer of the year award.
Through the years Alex's right hand man Brian Kidd has played a big part in Manchester Uniteds success and he is the one who coaches the players first thing in the morning, when Alex is checking his messages. He has also played a big part in the youth set-up.
But now Kidd has left for managerial duties at Blackburn, but United now have a successor. Derby's assistant manager, Steve McClaren. He will be in the same position as Brian Kidd was and hopefully be just as successful as Brian, if not more!
The season ended, and it ended as the most successful season in the clubs history. They made history by winning the treble and Alex's life time ambition became reality when the team beat Bayern Munich to win the illustrious Champions League. United finished the season with three trophies, and also an unbeaten run of nearly 30 games. Congratulations to the boys and to Alex for such a fantastic season.
