    College Finder
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is one of the most difficult and, of course, important parts of the application process. Choosing some institutions which are suitable to your criteria out of over 3,500 higher education institutions of United States is defintely not a piece of cake.
Most of Vietnamese students I know that came to US to study knew about their school via friends, teachers or other relations. Only few of them got the information via Internet or other ways. Don't know if this applied to everyone, but start by asking people around you, since the schools they're gonna tell you are most likely to be well-selected already.
You can either go to Internet sites like www.collegequest.com or www.usnews.com to use their college search engines, or read articles and try to dig into those clueless resources to find out little (and usually useless) info.
There're quite a few websites offering College Finder on the Internet. I've conducted a little research and the results are in Little Guide to Internet College Search Engines.
Tips for searching for colleges/universities that are suitable for Vietnamese students:
+ Try to look for schools that do not have Vietnamese students currently studying there.
+ It's hard to find financial aids for international students in undergraduate studies. Thus look very carefully for the financial strategy of each school.
+ Try to look for schools that do not have (many) students from Asia or international students.
+ If you can't have ACT/ SAT scores at the time you apply, just look for schools which require TOEFL score for international students only.

    College Search
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There used to be a very good college search engine for international students at www.mysky.com. It could search for schools by origin of students, such as schools that have Vietnamese students, or Polish students. This is very useful for international students. However, by the time I was writing this, the website www.mysky.com WAS NOT THERE. Maybe they put down the site. Anyhow, keep this site in minds and check back later, maybe it would be up sometimes.
Another favorite college search engine that I found is: collegeview.com. You can search by majors, ethnic mix, state, public/private, city size, etc. One of the best in the field that I've ever seen.
Colleges.com is a new discovery of which I'm most proud. There are plenty of options for you in the Search section, some of which you may not find any other place. This is not too helpful to international students, but one of the best around.
Petersons.com has a section reserved for international students, coming with its own college search. It doesn't really help much, at least I think. But who knows? I did not think this site would be helpful, either :)
Our veteran USNews.com also has a college search engine. It comes with general options like a normal college search engine on Internet. This is a typical one. Visit: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/cosearch.htm
Claiming itself "The Best College Search Engine on the Internet," GoCollege.com surprises me only because of its amazing small size of the so-called "Advanced Search" section. Still, who knows? Visit: http://www.gocollege.com/gocollegesearch/index.html
CollegeXpress.com is another typical college search engine: http://www.collegexpress.com/collegesearch/default.asp
