We are Voice of youth - VOY English club. We will kick off the 1st meeting this Sunday and I'm glad to invite all of you to come and join us

Due to some reasons, the 1st meeting topic now is Patriotism in Vietnam (instead of Demonstration in Vietnam in the previous post)

* How a Vietnamese person can express his or her patriotism?
List 3 best ways and explain

3. Debate: For or Against. Let's wait and see

Tất nhiên là "mềm" hơn topic cũ. Tuy nhiên mình nghĩ là bạn hơi tham lam khi ôm nhiều nội dung vào một topic, mình ước lượng riêng câu hỏi "làm sao để thể hiện lòng yêu nước trong thời đại hiện nay" đã đủ để nói cả buổi rồi

Hi all,

Buổi meeting đầu tiên của VOY, dù không quá đông, nhưng BTC và các members đã có 1 buổi chia sẻ trao đổi rất thoải mái và sôi nổi. Tiếc là mình không mang máy ảnh để chụp lại không khí và up lên đây. Sau buổi đầu có 1 số việc VOY muốn thông báo lưu ý tất cả các mem đã đang và sẽ tham gia.

- Các mem nên tìm hiểu và nghiên cứu tài liệu liên quan đến topic trước. Cái này là highly recommend. Vì như buổi đầu, có nhiều bạn chưa chuẩn bị kỹ nên đến gặp rất nhiều khó khăn. Việc chuẩn bị tài liệu sẽ giúp các bạn không chỉ có thêm 1 chút hiểu biết về topic (nhiều cái có thể bạn biết nhưng có thể đã quên hoặc không nhớ chính xác) và VOCABULARY liên quan. Các bạn biết là chúng ta discuss tiếng Anh nên việc chuẩn bị vocab là cực kỳ cần thiết. Nếu không dù có nhiều ideas bạn cũng ko biết diễn đạt như thế nào.

- Trình độ của mem: VOY welcome tất cả các bạn ở mọi lứa tuổi trình độ. VOY cũng khuyến khích các bạn tự tin raise voice và tranh luận. Tuy nhiên, các bạn cũng biết là bọn mình tập trung vào nhiều vấn đề nóng, thời sự khó và 1 số vẫn đang tranh cãi. Thế nên đòi hỏi các bạn có trình độ khả năng debate rồi phân tích...khá. Mình nói thế không có ý "kén chọn" các members hay phân loại members mà điều này hoàn toàn là vì lợi ích của các bạn. Những yêu cầu trên của bọn mình sẽ giúp các bạn chọn đúng clb theo đúng nguyện vọng của các bạn, không mất thời gian công sức của các bạn. Nếu các bạn chưa thấy tự tin với khả năng tiếng Anh của mình, chưa dám nói và tranh luận và mục đích hiện tại chỉ là tìm môi trường luyện tập TA hơn là tranh luận hay phân tích sâu xa gì thì các bạn có thể lựa chọn các mô hình clb khác ngoài VOY.

Mình có thể suggest cho các bạn clb TA khác mình cũng là BTC. Đó là HTA club. Clb này thành lập được hơn 1 năm (từ tháng 8 năm 2010). Các buổi meeting sẽ đc tổ chức hàng tuần vào 19h15 tối Chủ nhật tại Rua coffee (số 15 ngách 2 ngõ 27 Huỳnh Thúc Kháng). Xin lỗi vì lâu lắm ko update tình hình VOY lên đây. Nhà mình chuyển nhà nên mạng mẽo phập phù nên ko vào đây post thông tin được.

Tuần trước bọn mình đã có 2nd meeting nội dung vẫn là "Patriotism in Vietnam".

But to make it easier for you to research and discuss, we divide it into smaller parts:

AGENDA

1st week, we gonna discuss patriotism in some foreign countries, i.e., the United States and Japan

1. U.S.
- U.S. is a diverse nation with various races and religions. How can U.S. government reduce differences and gaps and enhance union among its people? What kinds of policies have been used until now?

2. Japan
- After World war II, Japan's economy was devastating and nearly collapsed. How could they recover and develop strongly like today?

- Earthquake event: In the sever disaster, Japanese still maintain their decency and great manner: no looting, no robbery, ... How can they do that?


Second week we gonna discuss patriotism in China and Vietnam.

2. Differences
3. Nationalism in China
4. Patriotism in Vietnam in the past and in the modern time

Tuần này VOY sẽ làm về Study abroad - Du học. Thứ 1, chúng ta sẽ bàn luận về giáo dục ở nước ngoài, có j khác biệt và tiến bộ hơn so với nước mình, những gì mình có thể học hỏi ở họ, những j có thể áp dụng ở VN. Thứ 2, chúng ta sẽ bàn về du học và những vấn đề liên quan....Tạm thời là thế, mình sẽ up chương trình và câu hỏi cụ thể cho mọi ng chuẩn bị sớm.

Whenever mentioning the education system in Vietnam, we definitely hear many sighs and complaints. Students oppose a heavy and tight study schedule with many theoretical subjects (which are nearly of no use in life) plus old-fashioned training methods ( which make them sleepy most of the time in class). Families are depressed by high costs of school fee, extra classes, tutoring and so on and so forth. Education experts criticize tens of projects wasting billion dong while bringing little effect and change. Everybody longs for a great reform carried out by great leaders but until now, what have we received? Disappointment? Silence? Or even more "rubbish"?

Have you ever questioned what the causes of a poor education system are? Lack of investment, really? Or else?

Have you ever heard of Ngo Bao Chau case? How can he gain great success like today? And how about Le Ba Khanh Trinh? He's a mathematics genius but what does he do now? Why can't he be famous like Prof. Chau? Is he less talented?

Why is there a big difference or even big gap between Vietnam's education system and foreign ones? What creates the differences?


If these issues interest you and you want to share your thoughts and ideas with others, come to our meeting this week and raise your voices

Some suggestions for you:
- Compare the education system in VN and foreign countries (US, Europe, Australia, Singapore….) in terms of education policies, infrastructure and facilities, curriculum and materials, teachers, academic environment, extracurricular activities…. => list out the differences and explain why
- Search the biographies and stories about Ngo Bao Chau and Le Ba Khanh Trinh
- Read some articles about education reforms, education projects by Hoang Tuy, ...

Hi guys,

Well, the discussion last week was so exciting and hot. People freely shared their disappointment about the current education system in Vietnam. Some pointed out a lot of good points in the education in some foreign countries like U.S. or Singapore and suggested great solutions to our education system. It was a very nice meeting indeed.

This week, we continue the Education series with some questions and issues as such:

- The effects and impacts of Vietnam's education system on the younger generations (9X, 10X).

- If you were the Minister of Education and Training, what would you do to reform the education system. List out 3 most important actions you would do first.

Hi thanks bạn. Về debate thì bọn mình hoặc làm theo kiểu chia 2 đội For and against hoăc theo kiểu chia thành các situations, 1 đội đưa ra cách giải quyết, 1 đội đưa ra thêm các thử thách, làm khó, bắt bẻ...
