The AICW (Advanced Infantry Combat Weapon) is a joint development of the Australian DSTO (Government operated Defence Science and Technology Organisation), and private companies Metal Storm and Tenix Defence.

This development has been carried out since the turn of 21st century, closely following the concept of the American XM29 OICW system. Overall, AICW represents the modular weapon system that combines the 5.56mm rifle/carbine copmponent as a host (basic) platform with 40mm multi-shot grenade launcher (G/L) module and multi-purpose electro-optical sighting system, which can be used to fire either rifle or G/L component, and also can provide recon data to external "consumers" such as tactical computers.

Trong cái nguồn từ CNN ở trên nó có nói là tốc độ bắn có thể tới "Metal Storm''s high-speed gun, capable of firing at a rate of a million rounds a minute." vậy thì cái 240.000 viên/m ở đâu ra?

Thực ra, họ giới thiệu tin thì không có vấn đề gì, nhưng họ đăng ảnh và chú thích kiểu nửa vời, đọc vào tối tăm mặt mũi hết. Mới đầu xem, hết hồn! cái tay cầm khẩu súng trong ảnh (của họ) bắn cái súng đó tới 240.000 viên/phút, thì bộ binh Úc sẽ vô địch thế!

Tiện thể nói tới anh Úc, giới thiệu luôn một số ''đồ chơi'' dành cho bộ binh của ảnh.

Cái này ngày xưa cãi nhau với Rắn đốm rồi, Khẩu này cóc phải bắn tốc độ đó đâu, chỉ có phóng lựu gắn trên đó may ra dùng đạn chồng nhau của metal storm thôi.

Kalashnikov AKS-74U assault rifle (Russia - USSR)
The AKS-74U short assault rifle (the "U" suffix means "Ukorochennyj" in Russian = "Shortened" in English) has been developed in the late 1970s from the AKS-74 assault rifle. The AKS-74U was intended as a personal defense weapon for tanks, guns, helicopters and other vehicles crews, and for the special operations forces, who required a compact but relatively powerful individual automatic weapon. The AKS-74U has the size and effective range of a typical submachine gun, but has advantage of the general issue, assault rifle ammunition and magazines, as well as the parts interchangeability with the general issue assault rifle, the AK-74.

AK-101 Assault Rifle
The AK-101 was designed as a replacement for the AK-74M assault rifle and has been modified to meet the needs of today''s military forces. The AK-101 was designed in Russia and is the main service rifle of the Russian military. The rifle is produced by Russia''s leading small arms manufacturer Izhmash Small Arms. They produce four other variations of the rifle in different calibers, barrel lengths, and weights.

AK-103
The AK-103 is a modern Russian-built version of the famous AK-47 assault rifle, chambered for the 7.62 x 39 mm round. It combines the developments made in the later AK-74 and AK-101 with a use of plastics to replace metal or wooden components wherever possible to reduce overall weight. The AK-103 can be fitted with a tactical light, lasersight, scope, suppressor, and the GP-30 grenade launcher.
The AK-103 is in limited service with selected units in the Russian army, and is already being exported to other countries such as Venezuela.

AK-107, AK-108 (Russia)
The AK-107 and AK-108 are variants of the AK-101 series. The difference from the AK-101 series is that the 107 and 108 have BARS (Balanced Automatic Recoil System), based on the AL-7. As the projectile is ejected from the muzzle, the gas that flows into the main gas chamber moves toward the piston that drives the bolt. This occurs while another portion of the same gas moves through its own cylinder to a piston that moves in the opposite direction, towards the muzzle. This "double recoil" decreases recoil and increases accuracy in full auto mode. The 107 and the 108 are different in that the 107 uses a 5.45 x 39 mm cartridge while the 108 uses a 5.56 x 45 mm NATO cartridge. Like the rest of the 101 series these newer AKs use synthetic materials such as black fiberglass-reinforced polyamide for the pistol grip and heat shield. This change of material is more cost efficient and much stronger than the original AK-47 wood furnishings.
