What makes a good host?

A host or facilitator is a more correct way to address "the guy" than a MC, because he is not in any suit to conduct any ceremony.

So what makes a good host? What makes one host "Wow" and another "Yuck"?

I go first:

1. Eye contact

Some too shy to contact with the crowd will not win much favor and support along. Use eye contact as a way to also measure how much they are with you.

2. Smile casually

Nothing works better than smiling naturally from time to time. Think of yourself as a entertainer or as a TV host, use it to brighten what you try to do and ease nervousness if any.

3. Be yourself

Throw away formality, you are on stage. Sway with the mood in the room. But being yourself does not neccesarily means being a clown or worse, a jerk

4. Go for variety

Fast and slow, loud and quite... for being dramatic

5. Engage, engage, engage

The key is crowd engagement/participation. Notice anyone who is passive, yawning or has side-talk (if bold enough you can tackle those who challenge your facilitation), engage them specifically in public discussion, activity. If you go solo for more than 50% of the total time, you are in trouble

In my opinion, the host or hostess should be good at pronunciation otherwise the others would be very very annoying

Another point, it will be an advantage if he or she is good-looking.

Last but not least, being a host is way more difficult than just being a member because they will have to take part in every topic. Easier said than done. It's not only about enthusiasm but also about responsibility.
