First, I'll ask him if he has thoroughly considered the decision. Probably give him more time to have a second thought. After he has considered all possibilities and alternatives, if he still prefers saying "good bye" , regardless of how "down" and blue I feel, I respect the decision he makes. Love is "two sided". One can only feel happy if they"give" and "receive". Giving only will finally wears them out, and they'll be left feeling frustrated. Receiving only isn't fair to the other partners, and those who only receive don't feel the happiness of being cherished by the one they love.

1. Say to him: "Fine, leave it. Never mind"
2. Time will recover our soul, and we know what we get
throughout our experience
3. He is not the only 1 for you . Be happy with whatever happened

At first, I'd be shocked. Later I'd ask him 'why" and find out whether if I could keep our relationship going on. If nothing could be done, I wouldn't do anything but let him go
