why do you study English?

When I was in sixth grade at middle school, my father was an English teacher. Nonetheless, I was one of the worst students in English class. My father tried his best engaging me to English. He taught free English class for my neighbor friends, included some very cute girls. This worked out pretty well since I wanna be a hero in my father class. I started learning English wih an aim " a hero knows everything in E class that others don't know"
Next few years, that "hero" did not improve English very much as he thought. His English still fluctuated around a basic level. Things had changed a bit when I went to high school, we had an English test in the first day of class. Coincidently, the questions were in my father classes. I was a "hero" again since I save some of my friends. ( like an eyed king in a blind community ) I liked English since that and started learning. Leaving high school, I began my college life with this little English. Three years after that, my English reached to ...an A level.
Then I went to US; in the first early morning day in US, first public place that I saw was the emergency room. My father had a stroke after long flights from Vietnam.I was the only interpreter at that moment. Fortunately, all of my English was back and I was able to tell them about my father status. But, I couldn't tell exactly what's going on. My father was saved after I used all of my language ability, included body, gesture, and posture. My life in US has started like that.
There is one way for those who wanna survive well in US is study. Like other FOB (fresh of the boat) people, I studied English like crazy in the first few months (not now ). This helped me enough *****rvive in US. Now, study English is not just "get something", in fact, it is a battle for myself. I lost this game for many times and I won just a few. Thus, I have to study English. I wanna win

For me, I study E to deeper-understand my mother-language, Vietnamese.

Save my life lor ... as my mom said that she would not let me eat if i didnt enter the class. I has to learn English since i was 5 or 6 years old. My father, his English is very very well, even French, Russian and little bit Spain.. he all the time ask me to study study English. He co-operated with my mom very well. Mom took me to English class, dad asked me to speak English with him at home. Then i had no way to run lor. They agreed that it would help me when i'm study abroad.. but actually, since the day i came here... i've used less English than in my childhood English classes.. all day using Cantonese... mommy and daddy emailed and reminded me have to use English as much as possible.. OK lor then i mixed English and Cantonese hheheh that mixed is very fun heheh

I have to study Eh cause everyone has to do it....

I study English for reading technical books.

well, I had to learn E cuz my friend sang to me an E song (when we were at high school) and I didn't know what the heck it was all about then ... Yeah, I know it sounds incredible ..but it was for real ....

Thank You GOBLUE it's a very nice story that i've ever heard . I have a story about my life , about my English that i would like to tell for al of you guys .
2 years ago , When i was in high school , If u came to my class and asked who the worst English student is , they would show you , it's me .
My English score was only about 5,0 or 5.5 . And sometimes it made me crazy , I really hated it . I just liked Math , Physics , and Chemistry in order to take the exam to go to university .
One day, I bump into a Korean professor from US . He asked me where he could buy a sourvenir . But Oh My God....I didn't understand what "Sourvernir" means ,and then he changed " Present" , but I still did not understand wat "present" means , and then he changed "Gift " , and one more time a did not understand . Holy **** !!! I couldn't stand my self . After that day , I've try to study English . It marked the begining of my study English .
English is very important in our life . We need it even though you don't use it everyday .

that's very interesting to see the different ways to approach English.....everyone has a story ...but eventually we all try to explore more our world and make our lives better.. ...

i wonder why all u guyz here have troubles in studying English ? when i was a kid, my parents gave me good picture books ... i enjoyed reading it so much.. i didn't need to try much , i remember the new words as i learn the meaning ... i'm good at reading and speaking,, but,, poor me, not good in writing essay! i listen to the English tape every free time ... just it !
